What is a Smart Lithium-Ion LiFePO4 Battery Charger
A smart Lithium-Ion battery charger switches the mode of power supply. It can communicate with an intelligent battery pack's battery management system (BMS) to control and monitor the charging process.
LiFePO4 vs. Lithium Ion Batteries
Lithium battery safety is important. The newsworthy “exploding” lithium-ion laptop batteries have made that clear. One of the most important advantages LiFePO4 has over other battery types is safety. LiFePO4 is the safest lithium battery type. It’s the safest of any type, actually.
Overall, LifePO4 batteries have the safest lithium chemistry. Why? Because lithium iron phosphate has better thermal and structural stability. This is something lead acid and most other battery types don’t have at the level LiFePO4 does. LiFePO4 is incombustible. It can withstand high temperatures without decomposing. It’s not prone to thermal runaway and will keep cool at room temperature.
If you subject a LiFePO4 battery to harsh temperatures or hazardous events (like short-circuiting or a crash) it won’t start a fire or explode. For those who use deep cycle LiFePO4 batteries every day in an RV, bass boat, scooter, or liftgate, this fact is comforting.
How is fully charged determined?
- A lead-acid battery is fully charged when the voltage reaches 12v or a predetermined level set by the factory.
- A smart lithium-ion charger is fully charged when it reaches the battery's maximum holding capacity. (100A, 200A, or whatever the factory has set as the predetermined battery capacity)
Significantly, the lead-acid battery is charged to a voltage, whereas a lithium battery is charged to its holding capacity.
Lead Acid Batteries
Standard old lead-acid battery chargers are not suitable for (LiFePO4) batteries.
A vehicle's car battery charger will stop charging when the desired voltage is reached. (LiFePO4); batteries stop charging when maximum battery capacity is reached.
As a result, lead-acid chargers will stop charging (LiFePO4) batteries before an Ion full charge is transferred to the battery.

Note: BMPRO commenced testing (LiFePO4) batteries and continues to test. To date, charging and discharging have completed a huge 3000 cycles. The current recharge capacity is still 90% of the total capacity.

Lithium Battery Charger Range
- 15 AMP will take approx 6.66 hours to charge a 100A Battery.
- 25 AMP will take approx 4 hours to charge a 100A Battery.
For example, a 120 ah battery will take a 4 Ah Charger 120A/4=30 hours to charge. For this reason, we do not sell this 4 ah charger.
The same 120ah battery will take approximately 5 hours to charge using a 25Amp charger.
