Springs Caravan And Trailer
Leaf springs for caravan and trailer models are designed to cushion the loads from your camper or caravan, and successfully absorbing bumps you encounter.
Some Crucial Info On Caravan And Trailer Springs
Suspension springs for caravans and trailers aren’t all the same. These can vary from caravan to caravan or trailer to trailer, even when made by the same manufacturer.
Locating the spring type apt for your needs is easy. However, we’ll need some information first; this will help us identify the correct spring immediately.
- Length measured from eye-to-eye or eye-to-slipper.
- Number of Leafs.
- The thickness of each leaf.
- Measurement of the centre bolt—from one end.
We carry the common 45mm and 60mm-wide springs. We also stock other widths that are a little harder to get.
Common Caravan And Trailer Spring Breaking Issues
Springs typically break in two places:
Breakage near the eye, and where the centre bolt goes through the spring. A spring broken at the eye is usually a sign of overloading. In this case, you’ll need to upgrade to a heavier spring.
If your mechanic does up your fish plate incorrectly, your spring will break at the centre bolt. No not tighten u-bolt nuts up with a rattle gun.
When the fish plate has more tension on one side than the other, the spring is unevenly balanced. You’ve likely loaded more weight on one side of the spring than the other. The result is a break right down the middle.
Simply turn the fish plate upside down and tighten it by hand. Take care you don’t bend the fish plate. Re-tighten after 200 km.
