10-inch Electric Trailer Brake Set | Australian-style (ALKO)
This set of 10-inch electric trailer brakes includes Couplemate™ backing plates, which are known for their great quality and reliability.
Couplemate™ specialises in trailers and caravans below 4500kg ATM. In our experience, 10-inch electric backing plates are the preferred brake choice as they are reliable and provide consistently safe braking. Moreover, at-home maintenance is easy and cost-effective compared to disc brakes.
If you’re looking to upgrade to electric brakes, our range of Electric Brake Conversion Kits may be of interest.
What’s Included with the Brake Pair?
- 1 x 10-inch Right-Hand Electric Backing Plate (AU-Style)
- 1 x 10-inch Left-Hand Electric Backing Plate (AU-Style)
- 8 x 7/16″ Nyloc mounting nuts (zinc)
Each backing plate includes a new magnet, a new pair of brake shoes, and mounting bolts. If you have a four-wheel braked trailer, you will require two sets of 10-inch electric trailer brakes.
Magnets are supplied with a new spring and clip to hold it in position, and either magnet wire can be connected as positive or negative.
Optimise Your New 10-inch Electric Backing Plate Pair
Brakes work through friction. For electric drum brakes, this friction is caused by the magnet and shoes contacting the surface of your brake drum.
When you install your backing plates, you’ll notice that the magnets have a smooth finish. Likewise, your shoes will be neat and without scuffs.
Steve’s expert tip is to ensure you “bed” your brakes before your first trip. This means going for a test drive and burning in the brakes, so you can quickly achieve maximum brake efficiency.
Don’t forget: If you are replacing your backing plates, check that your wheel hub drum is still in good condition.
10-inch Electric Trailer Brake Troubleshooting
