70mm Tow Hitch Kit includes 4.5t ATM Receiver & Shims | Standard 50mm Drop
Hitches are the key link between your vehicle and your trailer or caravan. There’s nothing more dangerous than a poor quality or loose tow bar tongue.
Having a strong and sturdy connection is therefore important to maintain your safety, your family’s safety, and the safety of other Australians. If you’ve ever travelled along the Bruce Highway, the Great Ocean Road, or even the Oodnadatta Track, you know how rough our roads are.
Moreover, if you’ve ever driven with a loose tongue, you may know what tow bar rattle sounds like. (And know how quickly it becomes annoying.)
Couplemate™ designed this tow hitch kit to provide the utmost in:
- Security: Cast receiver is fully ADR compliant and tested by Queensland Engineers.
- Safety: All components are made from high-quality materials and workmanship.
- Sanity: Custom-fit shims to target problem areas in your tow bar causing looseness.
What’s Included in the Kit?
- 1 x 50mm Drop Receiver for maximum 4.5t ATM
- 2 x Stainless Steel Shims (0.5mm)
- 2 x Stainless Steel Shims (0.9mm)
- 1 x Class IV Retaining Pin and R-Clip
The 100mm drop/rise hitch is available here.
What Makes this 70mm Standard Tow Hitch Strong? Why is it Better than Others?
Each kit includes a genuine Couplemate™ Receiver .
The main benefit of Couplemate™ Receivers stem from it’s design and material composition: completely solid cast from high-quality grey iron.
In our experience, welded or hollow receivers can distort and deform over time due to the towing environment. This process can be expedited when inverted, as some tongues on the market are not designed to be used upside-down. Therefore, the cast receiver design is superior as it is completely solid and manufactured in one piece.
The Couplemate™ Receiver included your 70mm Tow Hitch Kit is the CM523, which has been:
- Developed, designed, and tested by Queensland Engineers.
- Manufactured and quality-checked by Australian workers.
- Widely accepted as the best hitch for standard 50mm vehicle tow bars.
What is Hitch Rattle? How Do You Stop It?
We’ve included a set our CM256 Stainless Shims to create this Anti-Rattle Tow Ball Hitch Kit.
Rattle occurs when there is too much “free space” between components. For example, if you have a loose tow bar tongue, the rattling comes from the steel of your tow bar vibrating against your hitch receiver. The noise is often louder when there’s no load on your tow ball (i.e. no trailer attached).
Shims are supplied “pre-cut” so that you can optimise the fitment for your needs.
You can effectively target any problem areas inside your tow bar (including the top, bottom, or sides) to effectively minimise rattle.
See our YouTube video for a quick guide (great for visual learners):
