45mm Round Axle

45mm round axle suits wider small box trailers and boat trailers up to 1450kg. Couplemate axles are guaranteed for life against faulty workmanship. Bearing wear is determined by the degree of precision machining.

Bearing journals require smooth, accurate surfaces to ensure long bearing life. Additionally, add 100mm to the face to face measurement to get the total length measurement.

45mm Round Axle Common problems:

• Too much weight will bend this 45mm Round Axle to experience excess axle flex. Axle flex occurs when a heavily laden trailer spring rebound on the highway causing the 45mm round axle to flex up and down, or vibrate in the middle of the axle.
• Springs fatigue and fail prematurely under axle flex or overload conditions. Once your load is over 1450kg you will start to experience axle flex.
• Axles and Hollow axles that are incorrectly selected for the job you require.

If your axle is 45mm Round and bending, buy a 45mm square axle and update to 1.5t. It is not very expensive in comparison to replacing springs that have suffered fatigue.

Other Common Problems:

• If your 45mm axle is not properly engineered, you may experience excessive bearing wear.

• 45mm Axles must be examined before installation for cracks in the steel along the axle. Some suppliers supply non-virgin steel or scrap steel and forge this steel into solid square or round shape for axle production.
• Chinese bearings are the second biggest cause of axle failure. If you are planning highway driving, use Japanese bearings. The combination of Japanese Bearings and 45mm Axle will help you greatly with lower maintenance for your rig.

• Axles under say 2000mm and are 6 stud Landcruiser then upgrade to a parallel axle.
• If your axle is over 2000mm and is 6 stud Landcruiser, then upgrade to a parallel axle.

Calculating The Correct Axle Measurements

1. Measure the offset wheel. The wheel offset is the distance between the inside of the hub and the outside of the rubber.
2. Add 50 mm to the offset. Alternatively, choose your own distance between the rubber and the chassis.
3. Multiply by 2 for both sides. Add your chassis width to the above number.

Identifying Bearing Combinations

You will also need to identify your bearing combination which can be done by pulling off a hub and bearings and locating the number laser engraved onto the bearing. You will require both the inner and the outer bearing numbers.
