What is ElectroGal?

ElectroGal is electrolysis that applies a dual coating to steel components. Electrolysis is a reaction to electrically charged particles passing from a base metal through conductive water to the u bolts or other parts that are in solution.

After cleansing, u-bolts are coated with 2 solutions to coat the before the final coating of nickel is applied.

Tightening U-Bolts

Torque Setting: 100Nm

Couplemate recommends tightening nylons with a socket. Critical: Tighten nuts on the diagonals.

Q. Can I use a Rattle Gun to tighten U-Bolts?

Generally speaking, we recommend against it.

Rattle guns used on tightening U-Bolts tighten too fast and can cause the nylon inside the nyloc to overheat and become loose. Rattle guns cause one side of the fish plate to become too tight, causing spring breakages at the centre bolt.

Are Heavy-Duty U-Bolts worth it?

Within the industry, Trailer U-Bolts lack a standardised testing procedure.

However, Couplemate™ Engineers have developed its own rigorous testing method. In this process, we subject u-bolts, nuts, and fish plates to a static load test until destruction occurs.

All of our 16mm Heavy Duty U-bolt Galvanised Kit undergo a 200-tonne test. During this testing, the u-bolts in the right-hand image ultimately broke at the 23t threshold.
