2t
You need specific, heavy-duty equipment to safely and legally manage the significant difference between a 2-tonne truck and a trailer with an aggregate mass of up to 50 tonnes, as standard tow balls are only rated up to 4.5t.
This large weight difference requires commercial-grade towing connections, such as Pintle Hooks or Ringfeder systems, to meet Australian Design Rules and safety standards.
Equipment for 2t Single and Tandem Trailers
For standard single and tandem axle trailers with a Gross Trailer Mass (GTM) up to 2 tonnes, you will use standard 50mm tow balls and couplings.
50mm Tow Ball: A standard 50mm chrome tow ball with a 3500kg rating is suitable for these trailers.
Override Coupling: For trailers in the 750kg to 2000kg range, a hydraulic or mechanical override coupling is commonly used, and they require brakes on at least one axle. The Sunrise Hydraulic Override Coupling Complete 50mm 2T is a popular ADR approved option.
Axles & Brakes: Tandem trailer kits with a 2000kg GTM often feature two 50mm square solid axles and 10″ electric drum brakes to meet safety regulations.
