40mm Square Unbraked Axle Assembly
40mm square unbraked lazy axle assembly is ideal for small trailers and boat trailers up to 1000kg capacity. Boat trailer 40mm axle buyers may like to call us for galvanised equipment.
We manufacture our axles from Australian steel and hot-dip galvanise them in Brisbane. We then machine the finished galvanised product.
40mm square assemblies are supplied with Japanese bearings and hubs, ensuring the best quality. It consists of the following:
- 1 x 40mm round axle
- Two lazy hubs
- 2 x Japanese Bearings
Itās ideal for small trailers with a weight of up to 1000 kg and comes greased and wholly assembled for your convenience.
40mm square Axle Assembly, however, is not suitable over 2300mm or tandem trailers. In the case of a wide trailer axle assembly, the axle tends to suffer from axle flex. This wears out the springs rapidly as a result of reverberation of vibration starting from the centre of the axle to the spring. The springs wear out much more than they should.
Some of the models, this is suitable for our Ford, HT Holden, Commodore, HQ Holden, and Landcruiser 6-stud.
Log on to Couplemateās website for a wide range of caravan and trailer parts like bearing seals, kits, and parts, shock absorbers, and independent coil suspension. We offer delivery in not only Australia but New Zealand, the USA, Canada, France, Ireland, and Germany.

Calculating The Correct Axle Measurements
- Measure the offset wheel. The wheel offset is the distance between the inside of the hub and the outside of the rubber.
- Add 50 mm to the offset. Alternatively, choose your own distance between the rubber and the chassis.
- Multiply by 2 for both sides. Add your chassis width to the above number.
Still unsure of what measurements to take? Check out this handy guide below:
[P] – Check material specifications. What size and profile is the axle (for example, 45mm Square)
[T] – Overall axle length (tip to tip)
[F] – Hub face-to-hub face measurement
[A] – Chassis width
[C] – Tyre clearance
[B] – Back offset
[H] – Tyre to chassis
[G] – Axle pad centres
Identifying Bearing Combinations
You will also need to identify your bearing combination which can be done by pulling off a hub and bearings and locating the number laser engraved onto the bearing. You will require both the inner and the outer bearing numbers.
