This Landcruiser Axle Kit features electric brakes, providing precise and effective braking control for your caravan. This is crucial for safety, as you can rely on the brakes to respond efficiently.

These kits have a 50mm square axle profile. This is quite a strong axle due to the square profile.

These kits are designed to carry heavier loads of up to 4.5 tonnes on a tandem axle setup. Axles can only carry the weight that their bearings can handle. Our LandCruiser Axle Kits feature 2-tonne bearings.

This Landcruiser Axle Kit has undergone rigorous testing to ensure it meets or exceeds industry benchmarks.

We recommend rating a pair of 2t electric off-road brake axles to 4.5t to provide longer maintenance intervals and ensure safer travel.

N.B: A 3-tonne tandem axle setup can be easily derated to 4.5t to comply with transport regulations.

How to Identify the Landcruiser Axle Kit You Need

Axle Profile:

You want your axle to carry slightly more weight than your aggregate trailer mass (ATM).

Your ATM is the total mass of the trailer when carrying the maximum load recommended by it’s manufacturer. Your ATM includes the mass imposed on the towing vehicle when the combined tow vehicle and trailer are resting on a horizontal surface.

Axles can only carry the ATM that their bearings can handle. You need to find out what ATM you need your bearings to carry.

Bearings:

Replacing with the same axle profile

Take out your bearings and seal. Identify your bearing numbers and seal number. Your combination of the three numbers tells you what bearings you need. See our Guide to Wheel Bearings here.

Upgrading

If you’re after a different axle from your current axle, it’s recommended to have bearings rated slightly higher than your ATM.

For example, if your ATM is 1800, we would recommend an axle with two-tonne bearings.

Give us a call if you would like to upgrade your axles, because there are more factors to consider.

Brakes:

You’ll need to identify:

Your drum size: 9-inch, 10-inch, or 12-inch.
If you have either electric or off-road brakes: examine your brake magnet: electric brake magnets use a magnet retaining clip to hold the magnet in position on the magnet arm. Electric magnets also have an “X” in the magnet centre. Off-road brake magnets use a rubber band and have a diagonal dash in the magnet’s centre.
If you have Dexter brakes (an American-style brand and design): Check your park brake lever: if it is a horizontal park brake, you don’t have Dexter brakes. If it is a vertical park brake, you have Dexter.

Stud Pattern:

Check if you have five stud or six stud drums.

These LandCruiser Axle Kits only have a LandCruiser stud pattern. If you have a different stud pattern, give us a call and we will assist.

Axle Lengths

All Couplemate™ axles are custom-made to order. When you place an online order, one of our team members will contact you to confirm the desired length of your axle.

If you’re considering axle replacement, we recommend measuring from where one wheel bolts onto the corresponding point on the opposite side (commonly known as face-to-face: the “F” in the below diagram). You’ll also want to grab your bearing details or weight capacity.
