Jockey Mounts & Clamps
Jockey wheel mounts and brackets connect the jockey wheel to the trailer’s drawbar.
Common options include swivel brackets for easy storage and fixed bolt-on or weld-on clamps, designed to fit specific jockey wheel tube diameters like 48mm or 60mm, and often made of zinc-plated steel for durability.
Types of Mounts and Brackets
Swivel Brackets
- Description: These brackets use a pin or handle release mechanism, allowing the jockey wheel to pivot from a vertical operating position to a horizontal stowed position alongside the drawbar. This design eliminates the need for removing the wheel during transit, providing excellent ground clearance.
- Installation: Typically U-bolted to the drawbar (no drilling required). They are popular on caravans and boat trailers where ground clearance is essential.
Fixed Clamps (Bolt-on or Weld-on)
- Description: These clamps hold the jockey wheel’s vertical shaft in a fixed position.
- The height is adjusted by turning the handle and, in some models, by moving the shaft up or down within the clamp. The clamp can be opened to remove the jockey wheel entirely if desired.
- Installation: Can be attached via U-bolts for easy installation or welded for a permanent, highly secure fit, which is often preferred for heavy-duty or off-road applications.
