Marine Applications

Marine brakes use hydraulic brakes and do not require the park brake attachment on the 4.5t electric coupling. This attachment is for use with electric brakes.

Cutting the brake handle from the coupling is permissible without altering its integrity. Why? The park brake attachment is optional and not part of the testing procedures.

Please Note: if you do this, you could void your warranty.

What is a CTA?

A CTA is a certification given to automotive parts that meet applicable Australian Design Rules (ADR) and Road Vehicle Standards (RVS). Each approval is unique to the component, hence why approval is issued as a unique CTA number.

What is a “D-Value”?

  • Basically, your D-value tells you how much weight can be transferred to the towbar without the trailer becoming unstable.
  • Once the downward weight is higher than your towing part’s recommended D-Value, the D-value product can break. There can be some serious consequences if this occurs.

D-Value Calculation:

T = Total weight of the towing vehicle (GVM)
C = Sum of the axle loads of the central-axle trailer (ATM)
g = 9.81m/s, the gravitational pull/acceleration.

  • D-Value can only be calculated with the permissible total weight of both towing vehicle and trailer.
  • Additionally, the calculated D-Value can be equal or lower than the D-Value of the hitch and of the towing eye.

Is a 70mm coupling’s bolt hole pattern the same as a 50mm coupling’s bolt hole pattern?

  • No, a 70mm coupling’s bolt hole pattern is different to that of a 50mm coupling’s.

How do I install this coupling?

  1. Install a 4.5t electric coupling over the tow ball.
  2. Remove the nut.
  3. Adjust the side bolt until tight, then back it off 1/2 turn.
  4. Reinstall the nut and retighten it.
  5. This nut puts pressure on the coupling tongue to prevent decoupling.
  6. Repeat the installation instructions if the 4.5t electric coupling starts feeling loose.
  • It is essentially an “R” clip, a lynchpin, or another suitable device, such as a padlock, placed behind the handle’s lower part.
  • Use 4 x 5/8″ Grade 12 bolts of suitable length, washers, and nylocks. It must be bolted to the drawbar and cannot be welded to it.

Do we sell the handle seperately? Do we sell spare parts for this product?

We do not sell the handle by itself, or sell parts for this coupling.
