Hydrastar Replacement Circuit Board
Hydrastar circuit boards and electronics are not submersible, so avoid getting them wet.
The Hydrastar circuit board is a small, printed circuit board that controls the operation of the Hydrastar hydraulic brake actuator.
The manufacturer advises discontinuing the XL circuit board and replacing it with this product.

The board receives signals from the brake controller and converts them into actuator commands. It also includes protection circuitry to prevent damage from overvoltage or short circuits.
The Hydrastar circuit board is a critical component of the Hydrastar braking system.
If the board fails, the actuator will not operate, and the trailer brakes will not engage. Therefore, regularly inspect the board for signs of damage and replace it if necessary.

You can purchase a replacement Hydrastar circuit board from several online and offline retailers. Make sure that you get the correct one for your actuator. The board will be labelled with the actuator model number.
Manufacturers encapsulate electronic boards in water-resistant resin, yet they will fail when attached to your boat trailer and submerged.
However, accidents happen, and replacement boards and other trailer parts are available.
Hydrastar circuit boards are not repairable once submerged or water-damaged.
Replace American circuit boards with this Australian controller. The new Hydrastar V7 circuit fits all Hydrastar actuators except the 1000 psi model.
The standard board fits the new Australian version of Gen 7.
Hydrastar brake actuators operate hydraulic braking systems via the following brands of trailer brake controllers:

- Hayes
- Hayman Reese
The Alko Xtreme controller uses a foot control brake pedal installed inside the tow vehicle and, as a result, is not compatible with any Hydrastar unit.

Also, ensure the gaskets are clean before applying the sealant and resealing the housing to the body.
Finally, bleed the brake lines to ensure there are no air bubbles in the hydraulic lines. The air bubbles in the brake lines cause ineffective braking.
Hydrastar Circuit Board Troubleshooting & Best Practices
✔️ DO’s
- DO verify your 12V power supply is stable and fully charged before installing the new circuit board.
- DO disconnect the trailer battery and tow-vehicle plug before removing or replacing any internal wiring.
- DO ensure the rubber gasket on the actuator housing is perfectly sealed to prevent water intrusion.
- DO perform a controlled test of the breakaway switch after installation to verify the board reads the emergency signal correctly.
❌ DON’Ts
- DON’T power the actuator if the circuit board is exposed to moisture or standing water inside the unit.
- DON’T over-tighten the mounting screws on the board, as this can crack the fibreglass substrate or damage traces.
- DON’T bypass the recommended in-line fuse, which protects the delicate circuit logic from sudden vehicle power surges.
- DON’T mix wiring configurations; always match your specific Hydrastar model manual (e.g., HBA-10, HBA-12, or HBA-16) to the wire designations.
