How to Fit Holden Trailer Bearings
Follow these structural steps to replace or fit your new LM bearing set:
- Remove Old Cups: Clean the inside of the wheel hub. Use a hammer and a mild steel drift pin to carefully tap out the old outer and inner bearing cups (races) using the internal slots.
- Press in New Cups: Clean the hub bores thoroughly. Square up the new cups and gently tap them into place using a bearing driver tool or an old cup as a spacer until they seat firmly against the hub shoulders.
- Pack the Bearings: Place a generous amount of high-temperature wheel bearing grease in the palm of your hand. Force the grease into the wide end of the roller cage until it squeezes out the narrow end. Ensure total saturation.
- Install Inner Bearing & Seal: Drop the greased inner bearing (LM67048) into the rear cup. Lightly tap the new grease seal into the back of the hub until it sits flush with the hub housing.
- Mount Hub and Adjust: Slide the hub onto the clean axle shaft. Insert the outer bearing (LM11949), washer, and castle nut. Tighten the nut firmly to seat the assembly, back it off a quarter turn until the hub spins freely without play, and lock it with a split pin.
