Rocker Roller
Rocker roller springs are heavy-duty, load-sharing suspension systems designed for multi-axle trailers (tandem or tri-axle) and caravans.
They provide a smoother ride than standard leaf springs by distributing weight more effectively between axles, especially when crossing uneven terrain like kerbs or potholes.
How They Work
Load Sharing: The springs are linked by a central “rocker” arm. When one axle moves over a bump, the rocker shifts the load to the other axle, keeping the trailer stable and reducing shock.
Roller Action: Unlike traditional slipper springs, these feature a rear eye with a solid bush that rolls or moves within a hanger, providing “quick” operation for small road faults.
Components: A full kit typically includes 4 to 6 leaf springs (60mm wide), central rocker arms, hangers, greaseable high-tensile bolts, and shackle pins.
Key Specifications
Load Ratings: Common tandem setups are rated from 2,000kg to 4,500kg; tri-axle sets can reach up to 6,750kg.
Leaf Counts: Available in 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9-leaf configurations depending on the required weight capacity.
Finishes: Choose from Painted (standard), Galvanised (best for boat trailers/saltwater), or Dacromet (high-performance corrosion resistance).
Wheel Compatibility: Kits are often specific to wheel sizes, such as 13″–14″ or 15″–16″, to ensure proper clearance and geometry.
Maintenance Tips
Greasable Bolts: Most high-quality rocker roller kits use Greasable Shackle Pins. Regular lubrication is essential to prevent wear on the bushes and bolts.
Bush Inspection: Steel bushes are preferred for heavy-duty use, as they last longer and support higher load ratings.
Installation: During setup, the hangers must be pulled as far apart as possible so the spring loop sits at the back of the holder for maximum travel.
