60mm Outback Steel Spring Bush | High-Tensile Steel

The 60mm Outback spring bush is a durable trailer replacement for the worn AL-KO spring bushes. Steel bushings outperform nylon bushings in extreme locations, which is why greaseable steel bushes are in demand.

The Couplemate™ CM657 is a suitable replacement part for the AL-KO part number 590633 and is Australian-made.

Product Specifications

The dimensions of our 60mm high tensile outback spring bush are as follows:

Greaseable shackle bolts lubricate the steel bushes in outback springs and steel shackle hangers. Check them regularly and grease as needed.

When checking your rig, it is good practice to remove the shackle pin to check both the hanger and bolt for wear.

Bush Installation

Place the steel bush over the steel or nylon bush.
Use the new bush and tap with a hammer until the old bush is pushed out of the spring.

Greasable pin and shackle kit installation method

Remove the old shackle pin and check for wear.
Use the steel bush as a punch to knock out the old bush.
Tap in the new bush.
Remove the grease nipples and tap in the shackle bolt kit.
Tighten until the spring no longer moves.
Loosen the nut 1/4 of a turn to remove the tension of the spring pack.
The spring should now swing freely forward and backward.

How do I install and maintain a steel rocker/shackle spring bush correctly?

✔ DO:

Use greasable shackle bolts: Because this is a heavy-duty steel-on-metal setup, you need constant lubrication to prevent premature wear.
Verify free movement: Ensure the 60mm bush can roll or rotate freely inside the large rocker spring eyelet once aligned to prevent the suspension from locking up.
Clear out rust and scale: Thoroughly clean and wire-brush the internal spring eye before pressing the steel casing in to ensure a perfect, square alignment.

✖ DON’T:

Do not install bone dry: Never skip packing the inner core and bolt shaft with heavy-duty wheel bearing or chassis grease during assembly.
Do not torque bolts on the hoist: Avoid tightening shackle pins completely while the caravan or trailer is suspended in the air. Lower it to the ground under full load first.
Never mix old and new hardware: Do not install a fresh steel bush onto heavily pitted, worn, or non-greasable shackle pins.
