Sold as a pair. Holders can be welded on both the drawbar (trailer side) and the tow bar (vehicle side).
Regulations
13.4. ‘Towbars’’– Over 3.5 tonnes ‘’ATM’’– Safety Chain Attachments
13.4.1. Except for vehicles designed for use in “Road Trains”, the “towbar’’must be fitted with two safety chain attachments, mounted on either side of and adjacent to the tow “coupling”
13.4.2. Each safety chain attachment provided on the ‘Towbar’ ‘must withstand at least the following static forces, separately applied, without incurring any residual deformation that would interfere or degrade the function of the assembly or any breaks, cracks or separation of components. The static forces must be maintained for not less than 10 seconds:
13.4.2.1. Longitudinal tension (N) = 9.81 x ‘ATM’ (kg); and
13.4.2.2. Vertical tension (N) = 0.5 x 9.81 x ‘ATM’ (kg).
13.4.3. ‘Towbar’ safety chain attachments must be fixed to a part of the ‘Towbar’ ‘hitch is permanently attached to the vehicle. Permanent attachment methods include welding or bolting.

Installation Instructions: G80 Truck Trailer Safety Chain Holder: 8.5T ATM
Welding plays a crucial role in safety. Improper or unprofessional welding can cause dangerous situations.
The minimum weld size on all sides of the CM545 must be 5 mm. Follow the installation orientation instructions below.
- Drawbar Attachment: Weld safety chain holders directly to the trailer chassis rail as close as possible to the coupling.
- Aluminium Trailers: Weld the chain holder to a plate and bolt it to the trailer with four high-tensile bolts.
4500kg Application
For up to 4500kg ATM, the mounting material must be a minimum of 3mm thick, minimum C350 Section or equivalent.
8500kg Application
For up to 8500kg ATM, the mounting material must be a minimum of 5mm thick, with a yield strength greater than 250MPA. The Tensile strength must be greater than 410 MPA.

What You SHOULD Do (Dos)
- ✓ Use a certified welder: Ensure this heavy-duty holder is welded to your chassis or drawbar by a certified professional to guarantee it handles up to the **8500kg ATM** load limit under emergency forces.
- ✓ Pair with matching Grade 80 components: Only use safety chains and pin connectors that are also explicitly rated to **G80 specification** to maintain full system compliance.
- ✓ Apply an anti-corrosive coating: Thoroughly paint, cold-galvanise, or powdercoat the raw weld area immediately after cooling to prevent moisture traps and structural rust.
- ✓ Keep the rating mark visible: Position the holder during installation so that the load rating stamp remains easily visible for transport authority roadside checks and registration inspections.
What You SHOULD NOT Do (Don’ts)
- ✗ Do not exceed the 8.5-tonne rating: Never utilise this holder on heavy commercial trucks, low loaders, or plant trailers with an Aggregate Trailer Mass exceeding **8.5t (8500kg)**.
- ✗ Do not quench the weld with water: Never rapid-cool the weld area with cold water after installation, as doing so alters the structural properties of the high-tensile steel and can cause micro-cracking.
- ✗ Do not alter the pin slots or shape: Avoid grinding, drilling out, or physically widening the chain slot openings, as any material removal severely compromises the integrity of the **G80 holder**.
- ✗ Do not ignore dynamic wear points: Inspect the holder regularly and do not continue using it if you detect deep gouges from dragging chains, ovalised pin holes, or stress cracks near the root weld.
