Frequently Asked Questions

Is 2000kg-2250kg right for me?

Australian Design Rules (ADR) require your suspension to be rated at least 20% higher than the actual weight you intend to tow. For instance, if your towing load is approximately 2000kg, choose a suspension system rated at 2250kg.

This weight range is right for you if your trailer weight (plus 20%) falls between 2000 kg and 2250 kg. This ensures proper suspension system function and safety, and it is the optimal coil spring range.

We also offer our suspension in 1250kg-1450kg and 1600kg-1800kg.

Is my Chassis Strong enough for this Suspension Upgrade?

Caravan and Camper Chassis are built to a specific weight and specification, so the general answer is no: you don’t need to strengthen your chassis.

Suspension arms typically include a bottom rail connected to the trailer chassis via suspension hangers. This configuration can cause existing beams to twist.

There are two ways to strengthen the beam and prevent it from twisting.

• Insert stronger beams and braces.
• Insert a factory-made top plate for the suspension.

Couplemate chose the 2nd option and includes a top frame that draws strength from the chassis rails and beams, ensuring top performance under most conditions you are likely to encounter.

Can I Upgrade the Weight Capacity Later?

Yes! If you might upgrade your trailer or caravan later, you can easily upgrade your Independent Coil Suspension, too.

When designing this suspension, Couplemate™ engineers prioritised strength and adaptability. You don’t need to modify the suspension frame or dual shocks, but you should upgrade your coil springs and independent stub axles.

What Ride Heights Do You Offer?

Our suspension runs approximately 139.7mm higher than a standard spring-and-beam trailer leaf-spring suspension. Couplemate™ offers three options for ride heights, which operate at the following estimated measurements:(Please note: These measurements assume the use of a 50x50mm sub frame included) 

If you’re installing the Independent Coil Suspension on a Boat Trailer, you’ll likely want to lower the ride height slightly. Feel free to contact our team if you have any questions!
