This hydraulic piston seal repair kit is suitable for both AL-KO and Trojan hydraulic calipers. Worn seals are often the leading cause of piston failure. Water can enter the hydraulic chamber if a seal is slightly damaged, causing the piston to jam.

When you purchase a hydraulic caliper piston seal repair kit, you’ll receive the following:

Caliper seals are not easy to install, so patience is required. Once you have installed the first one, the remaining seal inserts will proceed faster.

Clean the piston’s bore before inserting it. Then, use silicone grease inside the bore to help the new piston slide into position.

Clean thoroughly: Remove all traces of corrosion, old fluid, and road grit from the internal caliper grooves using dedicated brake cleaner.
Lubricate components: Coat the fresh rubber square seals and dust boots in clean, compatible brake fluid before pressing them into place.
Check the piston: Carefully inspect the caliper piston for microscopic pits, scoring, or chrome peeling before reassembling.
Bleed the system: Perform a full brake system bleed after installation to purge all trapped air bubbles from the hydraulic lines.
Verify seal fitment: Ensure the inner square ring sits completely flat and untwisted inside the caliper bore channel.

Don’t use metal picks: Avoid using sharp screwdrivers or steel picks to install seals, as they scratch the aluminum or cast-iron bore.
Don’t use petroleum products: Never wash or lubricate rubber brake seals with WD-40, mineral oil, or engine grease, which causes rubber to swell and fail.
Don’t force the piston: Avoid hammering or forcing the piston back into the bore; it should slide in smoothly with steady hand pressure if aligned correctly.
Don’t reuse old seals: Never reinstall a distorted, dry-rotted, or previously used rubber boot, even if it appears visually intact.
Don’t mix fluid types: Avoid contaminating the new seals by mixing incompatible brake fluids (such as putting silicone DOT 5 into a DOT 3/4 system).
