Grease
- Carefully smear a small amount of grease on the axle profile before inserting the hub over the axle.
- Lubrication of the seal journal prevents lip burn.
- Always use seals with metal outer. Rubber seals can be more difficult to insert into the hub.

What You SHOULD Do (Do’s)
- ✔ Lubricate the rubber lip: Always smear a light film of clean wheel bearing grease on the inner rubber lip before sliding the hub onto the axle shaft.
- ✔ Seat the seal flush: Use a proper seal driver tool or a flat block of wood to tap the seal evenly until it sits perfectly flush with the back of the hub.
- ✔ Inspect the axle surface: Thoroughly clean and inspect the axle machined seal journal for rust, scores, or burrs that could tear the new rubber.
- ✔ Match with 2t bearings: Ensure this 64190 profile seal is paired specifically with 2-tonne rated trailer hubs, as its inner/outer dimensions are highly specific.
What You SHOULD NOT Do (Don’ts)
- ✘ Do not drive it in with a bare hammer: Never strike the seal directly with a metal hammer, as this will distort the metal casing and destroy the sealing integrity.
- ✘ Do not install backward: Avoid pressing the seal in reverse; the open side containing the garter spring must face inward toward the grease cavity.
- ✘ Do not reuse an old seal: Never reinstall a seal that has been pried out during a bearing service, as the metal shell warps during removal and will leak.
- ✘ Do not leave the spring out: Make sure the internal tension spring hasn’t popped out of its groove during installation, or the lip won’t seal against the axle.
