2-inch Tow Ball with Australian-made quality | USA
2-inch American Tow Balls are required to fit trailers imported from the USA. We stock trailer parts, including 2″ and 2 5/16″ tow balls to suit 3.500kg US boat trailer couplings.
We now also coat tow balls with chrome, a highly corrosion-resistant chrome plating.
Couplemate tow balls are the best on the market and an excellent investment.
Tow Ball Testing at Couplemate
USA tow balls are often hard to source in Australia because they aren’t a standard product. Couplemate maintains a strong stock of USA towing equipment and can ship immediately after we receive your order.
We understand you want your product quickly, and we guarantee immediate dispatch, excluding weekends and public holidays.
Product Specifications
- 2-inch ball – 25mm diameter shank – 3500kg Rating
- 2 5/16-inch ball – 32mm diameter shank – 3500kg Rating
- Anti-Corrosive Chrome Premium Coating
Please note: Standard Australian tow bar mount or receiver hitch mount has a 7/8-inch diameter hole.
2 -inch tow balls require a 22mm hole in the receiver.
The best option for USA trailers is to replace the US couplings with Australian equipment.
It is challenging to source USA hubs, drums, bearings, seals, and dust caps in the Australian market to replace faulty equipment or ensure the same equipment meets Australian Standards during registration.

2-Inch Tow Ball (3500kg) Safety & Usage FAQ
Do’s
- Check capacity: Always verify your vehicle and trailer hitch can handle the 3500kg rating.
- Match sizes exactly: Use this ball only with a dedicated 2-inch (50.8mm) coupler.
- Torque correctly: Tighten the locking nut to the manufacturer-specified torque setting before use.
- Use safety chains: Ensure your safety chains are crossed and secure every time you hitch up.
- Grease the ball: Apply a thin layer of hitch grease to reduce friction and wear.
Don’ts
- Do not mix sizes: Never couple a 2-inch ball with a 50mm coupler as it can release while driving.
- Do not overload: Never exceed the maximum 3500kg total trailer weight limit.
- Do not ignore wear: Stop using the tow ball immediately if you see flat spots, cracks, or severe rust.
- Do not modify: Never weld, grind, or heat-treat the tow ball, as this destroys its structural integrity.
