Eye to eye springs – 45mm wide and 635mm long are used on tandem trailers and are suitable for use with 13 / 14″ Wheels.

These eye to eye springs – 45mm wide and 635mm long springs are also available in either a centred or offset configuration in 4 or 5-leaf packs only. Additionally, they use polyurethane bushes, which means they don’t need grease and are long-lasting.

Does upgrading leaf springs increase towing capacity? This is a question that comes up a lot. The answer is both yes and no. Trailers are rated based on their weakest component, which is usually the bearings.

Will longer shackles lift my trailer? Yes, longer shackle plates will increase your trailer’s ride height. We offer two lengths of shackle plates suitable for 45mm springs with 63mm centre and 75mm centre holes. It is important to note that the increase is quite minimal and is not the most effective way to increase height.

You will likely see gains of around 5-8mm by increasing your shackle plate length. For alternative ways to improve the height of your trailer, please call us on 07 3348 3822, and the team would be happy to discuss the most appropriate method for you.

Should trailer leaf springs be replaced in pairs? We recommend replacing both springs to avoid any height difference across either side of the axle. A brand-new spring will always have a stronger camber than an old, worn spring, and if the difference is significant, it will result in additional weight being placed on the older spring. This is not ideal.

✔ Installation Do’s

Lubricate regular maintenance parts: Keep your nylon bushes and shackle pins well-greased at all times to prevent premature breakage at the bush ends.
Torque under load: Leave your shackle bolts snug but mobile during installation. Always perform final torquing with the trailer fully on the ground at standard ride height.
Recheck hardware early: Always re-verify bolt torques after the first 50 to 100 miles (80–160 km) of travel.
Position plates properly: Position your rear shackle plates toward the front of the trailer at an angled 5 o’clock position to optimise movement.

✖ Installation Don’ts

Don’t tighten bolts prematurely: Never lock down your shackle bolts while the trailer frame is still suspended on jack stands.
Don’t force unaligned components: Avoid using worn shackle pins, contaminated bushes, or mismatched hanger brackets, as this voids standard warranties.
Don’t ignore bolt clearance: If you are mounting springs above the axle, make sure your central spring bolt does not contact a flat steel surface, or it could shear off under tension.
