Replacement 9-inch Hydraulic Brake Shoes – Pair
These replacement 9-inch Hydraulic Brake shoes suit the AL-KO-style 9-inch hydraulic backing plate.
Brake shoes are sold as a pair containing the primary and secondary shoes. The primary shoe should be installed at the front of the trailer, and the secondary shoe is always smaller.
When performing brake maintenance on hydraulic backing plates, inspect the condition of the wheel cylinder. Replacement 9″ Hydraulic Wheel Cylinders are available here. As you install hydraulic backing plates, ensure this wheel cylinder is at the top of the drum.

How to Adjust 9-inch Hydraulic Drum Brakes
Adjusting your drum brake shoes is a fairly simple but necessary task.
Generally, mechanics recommend adjusting your brake shoes after the first 500km and every 5000km thereafter.
To adjust your hydraulic drum brakes, follow the steps below:
- Apply the foot brake three times. If a handbrake is fitted, ensure this is released.
- Check that the wheel and drum rotate freely; if not, check the default adjustment.
- Locate the two large hexagonal-shaped bolts. They are on the back of the backing plate on the left and right side (3 o’clock and 9 o’clock).
- Turn one hexagon bolt clockwise until the wheel is tough to turn. You will need to use a ring spanner.
- Back off until the wheel spins with only a slight drag in the lining, and adjust the second hexagonal bolt to repeat for the second shoe.
- Apply the foot brake again three times. Then, you will need to repeat the adjustment of the two hexagon bolts as you did previously.
Repeat this process for all wheels.
