Installation & Maintenance Guidelines

Do’s

✓ Do check the Cruisemaster compliance plate on your caravan’s drawbar to cross-reference the exact model number before purchasing spares.
✓ Do pack your replacement inner and outer bearings thoroughly with high-temperature wheel bearing grease prior to final hub placement.
✓ Do adjust the backing plate star wheel until the brake shoes firmly bind, then back it off approximately 8 to 10 clicks so the wheel rotates freely without dragging.
✓ Do pre-load bearings by tightening the spindle nut firmly while rotating the drum, then back it off slightly before securing it with a new split pin.

Don’ts

✗ Don’t let grease, oil, or chemical cleaners contaminate the drum’s internal braking surface or the brake linings.
✗ Don’t mix and match 10-inch and 12-inch brake components, as shoes, magnets, and drums are not cross-compatible.
✗ Don’t use an impact gun to tighten your wheel studs or your main spindle axle nuts, as this risks stripping or warping components.
✗ Don’t operate your trailer if you observe deep thermal cracking or if the drum face has worn past safety parameters.
