- Do position calipers optimally: Mount mechanical calipers securely—typically in a trailing position (behind the axle)—so the mechanical lever pulls efficiently toward the front coupling.
- Do perform a bed-in procedure: Take the time to burnish and bed-in new mechanical brake pads on the raw disc surfaces to ensure optimal friction and stopping power.

- Don’t lock up the handbrake cable: Overtightening the park brake adjustment on the coupling will cause the brake pads to drag continuously, leading to excessive heat and failure.
- Don’t use on heavy marine trailers without care: Mechanical cable systems require meticulous rinsing and maintenance in saltwater environments to prevent cable binding and rust.
- Don’t use low-load-rated wheels: Never pair a 3t-rated axle with rims or tyres that do not collectively meet the 3000kg load threshold.
