AL-KO hydraulic disc calipers offer a comprehensive range of braking parts for the boating, caravan, and RV markets.

How to Fix Excessive Disc Pad Wear

Hydraulic disc brake calipers are available in either stainless steel for maximum saltwater corrosion resistance or Dacromet™ coated cast iron. Both styles are fitted with stainless steel pistons for improved corrosion resistance.

Use AL-KO caliper parts with 10-inch and 12-inch disc rotors.

Up to 14-inch wheel brake rating to 1600kg per axle.
Up to 16-inch wheel brake rating to 1400kg per axle.
Suitable for disc thickness from 12mm to 16mm.

AL-KO installs stainless pistons in both Dacromet and stainless Calipers. Hydraulic disc brake calipers have a centre-to-centre mounting hole spacing of 88.9mm.

Caliper Trailer Parts

The recommended operating pressure is 6.9 mpa (1000 psi).

Trailers exceeding 2000 kg require independent control and a breakaway mechanism. Breakaway kits automatically activate the brakes if the towing vehicle and the trailer become disconnected.

Tip: When changing or inspecting disc pads, gently seat the piston by applying a G clamp to the piston. This procedure gives you a little extra room when fitting the disc pads.

✔ Do point the bleed screw up: Always mount the caliper so the bleed screw is at the highest position; otherwise, trapped air cannot escape the cylinder.
✔ Do use correct brake fluid: Only use the manufacturer-specified fluid (typically DOT 3 or DOT 4) to ensure the internal seals do not degrade.
✔ Do wash down after marine use: Thoroughly flush the calipers with fresh water after every saltwater immersion to prevent salt build-up and premature binding.
✔ Do check slider pin boot seals: Inspect the rubber boots regularly to ensure road grime or salt water hasn’t bypassed the protective barrier.

✘ Don’t let the caliper hang by the hose: Never leave the caliper suspended by its flexible hydraulic line during installation; support it with wire to prevent line fatigue.
✘ Don’t grease the pad faces: Keep lubricants completely clear of the brake pad friction material and rotor faces; use dedicated brake cleaner if contamination occurs.
✘ Don’t force pistons with sharp tools: Avoid using screwdrivers directly against the piston face when resetting it for new pads, as this can nick the surface and ruin the fluid seal.
✘ Don’t mix brand components carelessly: Avoid matching AL-KO calipers with incompatible master cylinders or controller pressures, as hydraulic ratios must match.
