AL-KO Mechanical Disc Brake Caliper

In many cases, mechanical disc caliper parts for Alko calipers also fit other branded calipers.

Ideal for single-axle trailers and caravans up to 1.5t, and tandem trailers up to 2000kg. Further, mechanical calipers fit both 10-inch and 12-inch disc rotors.

There are four types of Al-ko mechanical disc calipers

1400kg forward pull
1400kg centre pull
2000kg forward pull
2000kg centre pull

The maximum braking capacity is 1300kg on 16-inch Wheels and 1400kg on 14-inch wheels on 45mm Axles and larger.

Tip: Tighten the disc caliper bolt, then back it off 1/2 turn.

What You SHOULD Do (Do’s)

Do torque mounting bolts correctly: Always tighten the 7/16” UNF high-tensile mounting bolts to exactly 55 Nm (40 ft-lb) to prevent the caliper from shaking loose.
Do apply thread locker: Coat each mounting screw thread with a high-strength compound like Loctite 262 before securing the caliper to the flange.
Do fit washers correctly: Install both a flat washer and a shakeproof washer directly under the head of each mounting bolt.
Do wash down after saltwater use: Use the open disc design to flush the caliper thoroughly with fresh water after every boat ramp immersion to prevent salt build-up.
Do check rotor compatibility: Verify that your trailer brake discs or rotors are within the compatible thickness range of 12mm to 15mm.

What You Should NOT Do (Don’ts)

Don’t exceed axle weight limits: Never overload past the rated load capacities (typically 1,300kg to 2,000kg per pair depending on whether you are running light-duty or heavy-duty AL-KO variants and wheel sizes).
Don’t mix pull styles blindly: Do not buy a forward-pull caliper if your system requires a centre-pull configuration (commonly used on AL-KO Independent Rubber Suspension / I.R.S. setups).
Don’t let mechanical cables slack or bind: Avoid leaving excessive slack or creating sharp bends in the brake cable housing, which causes friction and significantly reduces stopping power.
Don’t mix brake pads or hardware brands: Avoid using generic aftermarket brake pads; stick to genuine [AL-KO Caliper Spares](https://alko.com.au/product/solutions/disc-brakes/caliper-support-parts/ “AL-KO Caliper Support Parts”) to guarantee rated mechanical performance.
Don’t use for breakaway over 2 tonnes: Do not rely on cable-actuated mechanical calipers for trailers over 2,000kg Gross Trailer Mass (GTM), as Australian regulations require independent control and breakaway systems (like hydraulic IQ7 systems).
