For a 3t (3,000kg) unbraked application, you typically require a heavy-duty lazy axle assembly rather than a standard 750kg hub.

While individual “lazy” hubs are unbraked by definition, Australian law generally requires brakes on trailers with an Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM) over 750kg. However, 3-tonne-rated lazy hubs are used in specific multi-axle configurations or off-road farm applications.

Do’s and Don’ts

DO verify your local braking laws, as unbraked trailers over 750kg GVM are illegal for highway use in many regions.
DO pack the hub thoroughly with high-quality marine grease before your first high-speed trip.
DON’T exceed the 3,000kg load limit, as overloading can cause catastrophic bearing failure.
DON’T use an impact wrench to tighten the castle nut; always torque it by hand to ensure the correct bearing preload.
