60mm caravan spring fits Jayco. It is designed for replacement 705mm Shackle Springs on Jayco and other manufacturers’ tandem setups.

Always measure springs with no load applied. When springs are installed, the camber shrinks, and the springs lengthen.

Installation Tips

Hanger Centres are 730mm for single axle installations.
Hanger centres are 825mm for tandem configurations (as seen below).

Standard Tandem Hanger Centers

Your older spring will almost certainly be longer than 705mm due to aging. If it is shorter, then you are choosing the wrong spring. Have a serious look at upsizing as follows.

As springs age, they lose camber and flatten. The next spring length to this one is 840mm. Therefore, if your spring is close to 705, maybe 720 or longer, then it has flattened out.

Should I replace all springs when one spring is broken or flattened?

In an emergency, on holiday, or stuck in an outback town, the best thing to do is to replace the broken spring and continue your journey.

When you can, visit a weighbridge and weigh your rig, as it is likely heavier than you think.

Now that your rig has the correct weight, consider replacing the other spring, as it is likely to be damaged as well.

You might even be surprised to learn that you need a spring upgrade because your existing spring is both underrated and overworked.

Important: The spring offset is 50mm from the spring’s centre.

Broken Springs

Springs break in only two places for specific causes: they are

Breaks near the eye are caused by shock loading when the spring is loaded close to or over total capacity. Breakage occurs on the second top leaf just in front of the end of the third leaf
Uneven tensioning of fishplates causes breaks near the centre bolt. Rattle guns are a significant cause of the uneven tightening of U-bolts

Spring upgrades are not uncommon on tandem setups. They tend to reinvigorate your caravan’s towing capacity to a new standard.

A 60mm-wide shackle is more adaptable and better withstands shock loading and twisting than 45mm springs.

Used in either tandem or single axle setups. Upgrading broken springs to the following load capacity is prevalent.

What You SHOULD Do (Do’s)

Do measure the eye-to-eye length accurately: Ensure your existing spring measures approximately 705mm along the curve or in a straight line (depending on manufacturer specifications) before ordering.
Do check the spring width: Verify that your Jayco hangers and shackles are specifically designed for a 60mm wide spring.
Do replace springs in pairs: Always replace both shackle springs on the same axle at the same time to ensure even weight distribution and tyre wear.
Do grease the shackle bolts: Use high-quality chassis grease on greasable shackle pins during installation to prevent premature bush wear.
Do inspect bushes regularly: Check the nylon or bronze bushes for wear every 10,000 km or before long road trips.

What You Should NOT Do (Don’ts)

Don’t overload the suspension: Never exceed the maximum weight capacity rated for these specific Jayco springs.
Don’t over-tighten shackle bolts: Avoid crushing the shackle plates together; the spring must move and flex freely.
Don’t mix spring types: Don’t use a 60mm spring on one side and a 45mm spring, or a different-length spring, on the other side of the caravan.
Don’t reuse worn hardware: Avoid using old, rusty shackle pins, u-bolts, or worn bushes with brand-new springs.
Don’t ignore squeaking sounds: Never ignore loud squeaks or metallic grinding noises, as this usually indicates dry or failed bushes.
