What is Hitch Rattle? How Do You Stop It?
We’ve included a set of our CM256 Stainless Shims to create this Anti-Rattle Tow Ball Hitch Kit.
Rattle occurs when there is too much “free space” between components. For example, if you have a loose tow bar tongue, the rattling comes from the steel of your tow bar vibrating against your hitch receiver. The noise is often louder when there’s no load on your tow ball (i.e. no trailer attached).
You can effectively target any problem areas inside your tow bar (including the top, bottom, or sides) to minimise rattle.

- Tight Receiver Tolerances: Because it is an anti-rattle kit, it fits very snugly. It may take a bit more effort to slide into receivers with internal rust or heavy debris.
- Tightening Maintenance: You must periodically check and manually tighten the anti-rattle bolt or mechanism to ensure it continues to dampen vibrations effectively.
- Weight Limitations: While rated for 3.5t ATM, it cannot be used for extra-heavy commercial loads exceeding this specific weight limit.
