Check pad thickness: Inspect the friction material regularly and replace the pads when they wear to 2mm or less.
Clean the rotor: Spray down the mechanical disc rotor thoroughly with specialized brake cleaner before installing the fresh pads.
Adjust cable slack: Set your mechanical brake cable tension so the pads sit barely clear of the rotor when the handbrake is off.
Lubricate slider pins: Apply a microscopic film of high-temperature anti-seize lubricant strictly to the caliper slider pins and backing plates.
Replace in sets: Swap out the mechanical pads on both the left and right sides of the axle simultaneously to prevent uneven braking.
