AL-KO iQ7 EOH Brake Actuator
The AL-KO IQ7 is an electric over hydraulic (EOH) brake actuator for boat trailers exceeding 2000kg ATM. Over recent years, the unit has become especially popular for larger boats trailers and premium off-road campers.
The AL-KO brake actuator stores compressed air within a pressure chamber, allowing your tow vehicle and trailer to brake as soon as you need it.
What are the Key Features?
- Power-Assisted Braking: Improves stopping performance and safety by engaging brakes the instant you need them.
- In-Built Brakeaway: Automatically apply emergency brakes if your trailer becomes detached from the tow vehicle.
- Automatic Park Brake: When electrically disconnected from the tow vehicle, the compressor activates the hydraulic park brake.
- Superior Reliability: Zero problems even after 220,000 cycle tests (average of 42 trips per year over 10 years).

Legal Requirements
Australian regulations require trailers over 2000kg ATM (2.0t) with hydraulic brakes to be fitted with an electric brake actuator and a brakeaway kit. The unit features an in-built brakeaway, removing the need to purchase a separate unit.
However, you will require a compatible electric brake controller (such as the Tekonsha Prodigy P3) to use this component. A list of other approved brake controllers is available in the “Specifications” tab.

Which Brake Actuator is Better?

The best trailer brake actuator for you will depend on your individual needs and preference, though this can be broken down into the following points:
- AL-KO iQ7 = If you want something simple, is supplied with an in-built brakeaway, and has automatic park brake.
- Hydrastar = If you want highly responsive brake performance, have an ATM exceeding 3.0t, is low maintenance and is user serviceable.
Also, if you have a brake controller that is not on the AL-KO iQ7 compatibility list, then you may need to opt for the Hydrastar instead.
