Receiver Shims
Rattle occurs due to space between your tow bar and hitch/receiver. The best way to reduce rattle is to use tow bar shims.
Most Australian tow bars have a 50mm x 50mm box section, so our premium cast receivers have a 2-inch shank. However, not all tow bars on the market are this size, meaning that the additional space generates a rattling noise.
Couplemate™ Engineers generally recommend steering away from Hitch Clamps, as the installation is difficult to do correctly and safely. Instead, customers chasing an anti-rattle tow hitch may have a better experience using our Stainless Shim Kit.
Important Information
D-Values for Trailer Couplings
D-Values assign ratings to tow couplings. D-value is the maximum force safely exerted on the component along a prescribed axis.
For example, 50mm ball couplings have a D-value that is determined by:
- Maximum towing vehicle mass of 5000kg.
- Maximum trailer mass of 3500kg.
So, why are D-values important?
Couplemate designs products to a D-Value. The D-Value means that the developing Engineers have rigorously tested the component to ensure a safe product.
You can use the configurator below to check that the 6000kg Pintle Hook Receiver Hitch suits your application.
